i. Description and purpose of the portal

The website BFH Studentjobs serves as a communication platform for students and graduates of Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) and companies/organisations that are looking for new employees. Companies and organisations have the option of publishing job adverts and portraits on the website which students and graduates can search for, view and subscribe to by means of job emails. Additionally, the students and graduates are free to create a personal profile in order to present themselves as potential employees to companies and organisations.

ii. Hosting

The entire hardware and server infrastructure is hosted by the data processing centre SWITCH in Zurich, Switzerland.

Personal data and type of processing

When you access the website BFH Studentjobs, information is temporarily stored in log files on our internal and external server systems. This is information that your browser sends automatically, namely:

  • Anonymised IP address of the contacting device
  • Date and time of server query
  • Country of origin
  • URL of the site accessed
  • Referring URL
  • Operating system used
  • Browser type/version

This information is captured anonymously and cannot be traced to you as an individual. We use the data to establish a connection to the website, for usage analysis and optimisation of our website, for system security and stability, for statistical purposes, to answer and process enquiries and for recruitment purposes.

The legal grounds for data processing lie in the educational mandate awarded to Bern University of Applied Sciences by the Canton of Bern in the Universities of Applied Sciences Act (UASA), as well as our holistic approach to the degree programmes we offer, implemented on the basis of the Data Protection Act of the Canton of Bern (KDSG). We have an interest in configuring and constantly updating our website in such a way that it meets the needs of our students, customers and website visitors and in statistically documenting and evaluating how our website is used in order to optimise our services.

Input forms

The website BFH Studentjobs contains various input forms (advert composition, CV database, etc.) through which you can voluntarily share personal data with BFH Career Services. You can see from the relevant input form which personal data is captured.

When you use the input form, a secure connection with TLS encryption is established, ensuring confidential transmission of data.

Duration of storage

The personal data shall be stored until you delete your profile. You are entitled to have your data deleted from our platform at any time. To do so, please contact studentjobs@bfh.ch.

Web analytics with Google (Universal) Analytics

BFH Studentjobs uses Google (Universal) Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (www.google.com). Google (Universal) Analytics makes it possible to analyse how our users use the website. Cookies are stored on your device for this purpose. The information generated about how you use the website is normally sent to a Google server in the USA and stored there. As IP anonymisation is active on the website BFH Studentjobs, your IP address will be truncated prior to transmission within the member states of the EU or other signatories to the Treaty on the European Economic Area. Google web fonts

We use Google web fonts on our website to display fonts in a consistent manner. When you visit the website, your browser downloads the web fonts it needs to display the text and fonts correctly from the server. As your browser connects to the Google servers in the process, Google learns that a device with your IP address is visiting our website. Google web fonts and the related data processing are necessary in order to make our website visually appealing. 

Integration of Google Maps

This website uses Google Maps, a product provided by Google Inc. By using this website, you consent to the collection, processing and use of the automatically collected data by Google Inc., its representatives and third parties.

Integration of YouTube videos

Our website features embedded YouTube videos which are stored on http://www.youtube.com and can be played directly on our website. YouTube is a service provided by YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA, which belongs to the Google Group. These videos are embedded in privacy-enhanced mode; this means that no data relating to you, the user, will be sent to YouTube if you do not play the videos. The data described in the section below shall only be transferred when you play the videos. We have no influence over this transfer of data. 

When you start playing a video, YouTube is notified that you have opened the corresponding sub-page on our website. This happens regardless of whether or not you have a YouTube or Google account and whether you are logged in or not. If you are logged into YouTube or Google, your data will be associated with your account. If you do not want your data to be associated with your YouTube profile, you must log out before you activate the button. YouTube stores your data in the form of user profiles and uses the data for the purposes of advertising, market research and/or to make its website more user-friendly. You are entitled to object to the creation of these user profiles, although you must address any such requests to YouTube.
